1st Corpus Research & Application Conference Marks Launch of China Corpus Research & Application Consortium
China Corpus Research & Application Consortium was launched at the 1st Corpus Research & Application Conference in Fuzhou from April 12 to 14. 48 organizations and universities applied for China Corpus Research & Application Consortium membership, and more than 100 university representatives attended the conference.
Professor Hu Kaibao, President of China Corpus Research & Application Consortium and Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, announced the establishment of the China Corpus Research & Application Consortium. The Consortium was jointly launched by SJTU, University of Macau, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Dalian University of Technology, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Qufu Normal University, Sichuan International Studies University, Eagle Eye Translation Service Co., Ltd., Institute of Linguistics CASS and Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship TAC. Professor Hu Kaibao was elected as the first president of China Corpus Research & Application Consortium.
The Consortium aims to strengthen government-industry-university collaboration on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, resource sharing, win-win cooperation and common development. It provides a mechanism to optimize the allocation of quality corpus resources and serves the needs of language education and research in universities.
The 1st Corpus Research &Application Conference brought together over 250 participants from universities, research institutes and domestic companies throughout China. Corpus experts from the Institute of Applied Linguistics MOE, Institute of Linguistics CASS, Huawei Translation Center, SJTU, Henan Univeristy, Qufu Normal University, etc. were invited to deliver presentations at the conference.
The 1st Corpus Research & Application Conference offered 6 panel discussions on the topics of corpus and artificial intelligence, university-industry cooperation, foreign language teaching, translation studies, literary studies, and linguistics research. The conference was the first national corpus conference held after the launch of China Corpus Research & Application Consortium. The successful convening of the conference will promote the development of corpus linguistics in universities and enable corpus research to play a bigger role in teaching, research and social practice.
