Follow CPC Footprints: Students Visit Revolutionary “Red Memorial Halls” to Help with Translating
From July to August 2021, the practice group from the School of Foreign Languages, themed "Remembering, Exploring and Translating the Revolutionary Footprints around Us", visited various revolutionary “red memorial halls” across the country. Based on their discipline characteristics and understanding of the revolutionary spirit, students completed the collection of Chinese-English translation texts in the memorial halls, sorted them into Chinese-English translation corpus, and formed translation suggestions. In collecting corpus and analyzing translation, they learned more about the revolutionary stories around them, deepening their understanding of Communist Party of China and national history, consolidating the foundation of faith and carrying on the revolutionary spirit.
YUYA TERAGAKI, a Japanese student, gained a deeper understanding of Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao, after going to Tianjin to visit Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall. He said, "Mr Zhou Enlai worked hard all his life for the well-being of the Chinese people and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. His extraordinary achievements and noble spirit in fighting for the cause of the progress of humankind were deeply engraved in the hearts of people of all ethnic groups of China, as well as the people all over the world who seek peace and justice."
Qin Jie visited Longhua Martyrs Cemetery and Memorial Hall in Shanghai. "By commemorating and honoring the revolutionary martyrs, I learned about the CPC history and felt its original aspiration and mission " he said. “At the same time, I also collected relevant translation materials, hoping to give full play to my discipline advantages and help the spread of revolutionary cause."
Fu Tianshu visited online a Memorial Hall dedicated to the Battle of Jinan. Through relics photos and audio explanations, she gained an in-depth understanding of the historical background of the War of Liberation, as well as the Jinan campaign spirit of "loving the Party and the army, relying on the people, being brave and tenacious, and daring to win".
Wang Jingyi chose to visit the premises of former Northwest Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Through the text and voice introduction of online platform, she learned that this site had made important contributions to the model pilot zones of the New Democracy and construction of the embryonic form of new China.
After the practice, students wrote down their gains and experiences.
Wang Xuyi: I felt very proud and deeply moved. First, I am proud of having such a great poet as Ai Qing in Jinhua. I am moved by his excellent literary and artistic works, and touched by his captivating personality. Second, I felt proud and grateful for having such a well-equipped memorial in my hometown with reasonable exhibition and high-quality written documents. I also felt grateful for having such a group of people who attached great importance to cultural inheritance and Party history construction.
Yang Yang: Through the visit and study, we deeply felt the difficulty of the victory of the Chinese revolution and realized today’s hard-earned good life. It also inspired us to learn from Comrade Zhou Enlai who dared to take responsibility, confront difficulties and solve problems with the spirit of unity, self-discipline and tenacity.
As the saying goes, “Travel thousands of miles to get to know China”. Through this summer practice activity, students not only reviewed the course of Chinese revolution, but also better understand that the young generation should learn from their ancestors and bravely shoulder the responsibility of the times. Also, giving full play to one’s discipline expertise, telling revolutionary stories well and carrying forward the revolutionary spirit have become every member’s goal and aspiration. In the new era, students of School of Foreign Languages will forge ahead with determination, bear in mind the revolutionary stories and pass on the revolutionary tradition.
