A Delegation from the Shanghai Office of Gunma Prefecture Visit the School of Foreign Languages

On May 12, Toru Tsuchihashi, director of the Shanghai Office of Gunma Prefecture in Japan, Akiko Nakano, deputy director, and Ms. Zou Yanmiao visited the School of Foreign Languages. Ding Jian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, Mr. Zhang Xin, Foreign Affairs Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, and the student representatives of the Sino-Japanese Bridge Club affiliated with the School of Foreign Languages, that is, Mr. Li Qingyang, former Minister of the Practice Department, and Mr. Wu Yufeng, current Co-Vice President, attended the meeting together.

Mr. Toru Tsuchihashi introduced that Gunma Prefecture, as an important part of the Tokyo circle, had the characteristics of distinctive industrial development, rich agricultural products, and a reputation for hot springs and skiing. Gunma Prefecture had always attached importance to education development, especially in recent years, actively promoting international exchange among university students. He mentioned that Shanghai Jiao Tong University was an internationally renowned top-ranking university and it was hoped that in the future the contacts between the universities in Gunma and the outstanding students of SJTU can be established to promote the exchange between the youth of the two countries and regions.

Ding Jian said that strengthening communication between young students from two countries and helping them to understand foreign cultures in various aspects and dimensions were crucial in cultivating internationally competent talents. The foreign language discipline of the SFL ranked among the best in China and SFL students had strong communication skills in foreign languages. At the same time, the SFL actively supported student associations affiliated with the school to carry out and participate in various international exchange activities. For example, the Sino-Japanese Bridge Club, which promoted exchanges between Chinese and Japanese youths, had successfully co-organized the "Sino-Japanese Youth Elite Camp" and the "Shanghai Jiao Tong University-Osaka University Student Forum" held by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It was believed that in the future the students of the SFL and the club will have meaningful exchange activities with students from universities in Gunma .

Li Qingyang introduced in detail the activities carried out by the Sino-Japanese Bridge Club, which regularly held online exchange sessions with students from universities in Japan. The topics were rich, including not only the daily life, interests and hobbies of Chinese and Japanese college students, but also the discussion of hot social topics. Students from universities in Gunma were welcome to participate in the club's online exchange activities.

Wu Yufeng added that he minored in Japanese and joined the Sino-Japanese Bridge Club out of strong interest in Japanese culture. Daily communication with Japanese students had been very helpful to his Japanese studies and had greatly increased his confidence in learning Japanese. He looked forward to future exchanges with students from universities in Gunma.
