SFL holds the 2023 Autumn Semester Academic Planning and Sharing Meeting

On the afternoon of June 7, 2023, the Sixth Party Branch of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, the Student Affairs Office, the Japanese Department and the German Department jointly held the 2023 Autumn Semester Academic Planning and Sharing Meeting. Five undergraduate students from Grade 2019 of the Japanese Department and the German Department shared their experiences in applyinging for studying abroad, taking the postgraduate entrance examination, internships, job hunting and employment. The meeting took place in the Conference Room 107 of the Foreign Languages Building and was also shared online through Tencent Conference to facilitate communication.

 

 

Ouyang Jialu from the Japanese department first guided the attending students to think and analyze their academic planning needs with two questions: "Why do you want to pursue postgraduate studies ?" and "Why do you choose to take the postgraduate entrance examination in China?" She shared her experience in studying psychology at East China Normal University, emphasized the importance of mental attitude in the process of preparing for the exam, and introduced the channels for collecting professional information in the laboratory and colleges, providing helpful suggestions for lower grade students to choose their future path to higher education.

On the topic of applying for studying abroad, Han Yihui, a Japanese major who is going to study computer science and engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, introduced his experience in applying to study computer science in the United States. He shared his four-year study plan, his experience in choosing destinations and universities for studying abroad, and his experience in applying for computer laboratories. His talk provided diversified paths and directions for the students to think about their future development.

 

Li Yihan, a German major, will go to Oxford University to study applied Linguistics after graduation this year. Based on her admission experience, she introduced in detail several important aspects of the application process of British linguistics program, including project selection, preparation of soft and hard background in the early stage and writing of application documents, and shared her successful experience without reservation.

 

Lu Xiaoyun, majoring in Japanese, chose to study marketing in Higher Business School in Paris after graduation. She introduced the mainstream majors in economics and management as well as the information on regional selection. In addition, she also shared her internship experience and answered the common questions and doubts of the students during the internship.

 

In terms of job hunting and employment, Bai Yixuan, a German major who is about to join Boston Consulting Group, led the students to overview the overall picture of business employment direction and in-depth analysis of the process of consulting employment application. It provided useful reference suggestions for students majoring in German and Japanese to consult and find jobs.

 

After the sharing, the students inquired about their doubts about academic planning, the details they should pay attention to when preparing for job hunting and studying abroad, and the problems they encountered in their studies. The senior students shared their experience patiently and nswered the questions raised by the lower students. Chen Chen, the ideological and political counselor of the Student Affairs Office and the German Department of 2019, also answered questions for the lower grade students attending the event, encouraging them to be confident and motivated and be good at self-regulating pressure. In the end, Wang Lin, secretary of the Party Branch of the Sixth Teaching staff, summarized the activity and thanked the seniors who participated in the sharing activity for their careful preparation and sharing of valuable academic planning experience. It was hoped that the lower grade students can learn from the excellent seniors, work hard and pursue excellence, and carry forward the School of Foreign Languages' fine tradition of helping one's peers.
